Your sleeping lawn needs reviving in the spring!
Dust off your tools! It’s time to issue a wake up call for your lawn! Spring is one of our most favorite times of the year for us. It’s the time of the year when the sun is warm, the breeze is cool, and the steady hum of lawnmowers once again fills the air.
As we gear up for the upcoming season, when we get to revive sleeping lawns, we wanted to share how you can help prevent your own beautiful lawn from being overtaken with weeds, stress by drought, and heat. Check it out below!
Spring Dethatch for Lawns – Thatch is essentially dead or dying grass shoots. Less than ½ inch is actually good for the lawn, but too much thatch can suffocate new growth in the spring causing a less attractive lawn.
Don’t start too early – It can be tempting to get out just as soon as it is warm enough to go outside without a coat on. It is important to be patient, or you can run the risk of compacting the grass or killing new shoots before they have a chance to mature. Wait until the lawn has turned mostly green before you begin mowing or aerating in the spring.
Irrigation system inspection – There are three key factors in maintaining a healthy lawn: Good soil, water & sunlight. It is very important that the lawn is getting adequate amounts of water in all areas. Having your irrigation system in tip top shape at the beginning of the season will ensure a healthy lawn until winter.
Consider aeration – Aeration allows greater movement for all the essentials that soil needs including air! Aerating also increases the speed of decomposition of the grass clippings and enhances deep root growth. If you have heavily compacted soil, the lawn will especially benefit from aerating.
